At Health and Wellness Chiropractic, treatment doesn’t end when your appointment is over. We believe that to truly find lasting relief from pain, you need to improve your strength, flexibility, and mobility. For this reason, we give our patients personalized stretches and exercises designed to complement our chiropractic care and help them recover more effectively.
Whether you’re dealing with back pain, neck stiffness, a sports injury, or chronic joint discomfort, the right exercise program can help improve balance and posture, increase flexibility, enhance function, and prevent future injuries.
Why are Stretches and Exercises Important?
While our chiropractors and team at Health & Wellness Clinic do our best to relieve your pain in our office, it is important to continue basic stretches at home to maintain a pain-free lifestyle.
A customized stretching and exercise program can help:
- Improve flexibility and range of motion
- Strengthen muscles that support the spine
- Reduce muscle tension and stiffness
- Improve posture and body mechanics
- Enhance balance and coordination
- Speed recovery after injury
- Prevent future injuries and flare-ups
- Support long-term spinal health
By combining chiropractic care with therapeutic movement, we can address both the source of pain and the factors contributing to it.
Personalized Exercise Programs
No two patients have the same needs. After evaluating your condition, mobility, posture, and strength, Dr. Hendricks will create an exercise plan that’s tailored specifically to your goals and condition.
This program may include gentle stretching routines, core stabilization and strengthening exercises, balance and coordination training, postural correction exercises, functional movement training, and home exercise recommendations.
Every exercise is selected to match your current ability level and progress as your body heals.
Conditions That Benefit from Therapeutic Exercise
Stretching and strengthening exercises can be highly effective for many musculoskeletal conditions, including
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Sciatica
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Shoulder pain
- Hip or knee pain
- Arthritis
- Sports injuries
- Whiplash
- Muscle strains
- Tendon injuries
- Plantar faciitis
- Poor posture
- Chronic muscle tightness
Combined with chiropractic care, these exercises can improve movement and restore function.
Benefits Beyond Pain Relief
Therapeutic exercise also offers benefits beyond treating injuries. Patients often notice improvements in their energy levels, athletic performance, everyday mobility, posture, balance and coordination, physical endurance, and overall quality of life.
A stronger, more flexible body can better handle the demands of work, recreation, and everyday activities.
What to Expect
During your visit, we’ll demonstrate each stretch and exercise and ensure you’re performing it correctly. Proper technique is essential for getting the best results and avoiding further irritation.
We’ll also tell you how often to perform each exercise, how many repetitions to complete, when to progress your routine, which movements to avoid during recovery, and how to listen to your body.
As your condition improves, we’ll update your program to continue building stretch and mobility.
What to know Before Stretching
Stretches are ineffective if you don’t hold the position for at least 15 to 30 seconds. However, you should never force your body into difficult or uncomfortable positions in the hopes that it will make things better.
Only stretch until you feel a gentle pull, never sharp pain, and take slow, deep breaths. Make sure to stretch only one side of your body at a time to keep from overworking yourself.
To help you feel relaxed and pain-free at home, Dr. Hendricks has made information pages for the most common areas of pain: the neck and the lower back.
We encourage you to perform the following stretches and exercises, as well as any others that Dr. Hendricks or Dr. Rollins may recommend:
