Is Chiropractic Care Covered By Insurance?

Home | Chiropractor | Page 15

Layton Utah Massage Therapy

A common question that is asked before chiropractic visits are if the cost of treatment from our chiropractors will be covered by insurance. While all insurance policies are different and can have stipulations for certain holistic treatments, more and more insurance plans are covering the cost of chiropractic care. Before you begin treatment with a chiropractor it is best to know what your insurance will pay and how much will be required of you to pay out of pocket. Health And Wellness Clinic encourages our patients to read more in this blog to learn if your chiropractic care is covered by insurance.

Are There Insurance Restrictions On Chiropractic?

Your insurance will most likely cover the chiropractor visits but may have stipulations while you are seeking care or after a few months. Often the insurance company will cover simple manual adjustments but may not cover laser therapy or computerized adjustments.

The first restriction is that many insurance plans will require a general doctor to refer you to a chiropractor. Getting a referral shows the insurance that a medical professional also believes you can benefit from chiropractic treatment.

The next restriction insurance plans may inflict is setting a cap on how many visits a patient can make to the chiropractor in a month or a year. These restrictions will not stop you from visiting the chiropractor, but the insurance will only pay for the allotted amount of visits. Talking to your insurance before you start treatment will prevent you from being blindsided when you need to start paying for visits.

One of the last stipulations may stop covering your chiropractic treatment if your treatment has reached a plateau. If you are seeing a chiropractor for a specific ailment, they may set a proven track record for your recovery. If your visits are outside this window, the chiropractic treatment will not be covered by insurance.

What If It Is Not Covered By Insurance?

Even though chiropractic care is proven to be effective for most patients’ pain, it just may not be covered by insurance. Patients can cover the cost out of their own pocket if they feel that chiropractic treatment will be helpful for their situation.

Under the circumstances that you are paying every expense out of your own pocket make sure you discuss this with your chiropractor and work to heal quickly and effectively. The shorter the timeline the less money you will be spending to seek treatment.

What Health Providers Cover The Treatment?

You will need to talk to your insurance provider directly to know what services are covered by insurance or what stipulations may be added. While some insurances may not cover chiropractic, there are some plans and even non-health insurance that are accepted.

Insurances that Health And Wellness Clinic accepts include

  • All automobile insurances
  • All worker’s compensation insurance
  • Mailhandlers
  • Altius
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal
  • PEHP
  • DMBA
  • Select Health (IHC)
  • Educators (EMIA)
  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • UHP
  • UHC
  • Foreign Service Benefit Plan
  • SW Service Administrators
  • Veterans Choice Programs
  • Medicare Part B
  • And more!

How Much Does A Chiropractic Visit Cost?

Our clinic also offers payment options to help make it easier for patients whose insurance will not cover chiropractic care. We want to help as many patients as possible receive pain relief so our plans can fit any budget.

The common cost of chiropractic care is anywhere from $30-65 per visit. Some chiropractors can cost hundreds of dollars per visit though, so it is best to work with your insurance to cover even part of the treatment. Intensive treatments can cost more than just simple manual adjustments.

Many professional, college and high school athletes utilize the services of a chiropractor. Athletes need a chiropractor to reap the benefit of chiropractic care. Chiropractors can help in multiple ways and can allow the athlete to continue to play the sport they love without catastrophic injury. For athletes that are consistent in one sport, injury can occur more frequently, so these athletes can benefit greatly from chiropractic treatment. Here are 5 reasons all athletes need a chiropractor and what they can do for them.

1- Improve Sports Performance

Athletes want to improve their performance and work to be the best at their respective sports. Working with a chiropractor can help athletes of all ages improve their performance without medication or overworking their muscles. Chiropractic care can help you get the most out of every activity and prevent muscle weakness or pain.

Chiropractors can help pinpoint the cause of recurring injuries and help improve imbalances in your body. This will bring you peace of mind and give you less to worry about while participating in your sport.

2- Recover From Injuries

Injuries in sports are common but recovering from them can take a while. Chiropractic treatment helps to recover from injuries quicker and get you back to full function. Increasing the speed of recovery comes from massage to improve soft tissues and blood flow while decreasing inflammation.

Chiropractors have many treatment options that can increase in length and intensity depending on the injury. Chiropractors spend years learning about anatomy and physiology to know how the body moves, which can help them increase your range of motion and get you back to play as quickly as possible.

3- Prevent Injuries

Not only can chiropractic treatment help repair injuries, but proper treatment can also prevent injuries in the first place. Preventing injuries in sports may seem counterintuitive, but multiple injuries over time can end your athletic career sooner than you would like. Chiropractors can give advice on stretches, how to perform your best, what to look for when injuries can happen, and give you suggestions on how to work out.

4- Fewer Prescription Medications

Taking less medication is appealing for many athletes who rely on their bodies to be in their best shape. Getting hooked on hard medications is also a growing problem among athletes. All athletes need a chiropractor to limit the need for medicine and stop the need for painkillers. Medications can also come with lots of side effects that can affect performance and limit daily activities.

5- Increase Flexibility

Having flexible limbs and a body is important to prevent injury. All athletes need a chiropractor to improve their flexibility and prevent breaks and sprains. Utilizing stretching techniques, chiropractors can help stretch and naturally increase the body’s ability to move freely. Living an active lifestyle means you need to have the freedom to move your body how you see fit, chiropractors can help athletes of all types.

6- More One On One Time With Doctors

Getting to see a doctor can sometimes take months. When you are working through an injury, or potential problems with your performance, seeing a specialist is important to your health. All athletes need a chiropractor because getting time with a physician is easier and more consistent. Chiropractors see fewer patients with small needs so this means that they have more time to treat athletes like you.

Improving your posture can help relieve back and neck pain, keep your spine properly aligned, and help you look more put together. Posture is often something that many adults neglect and can cause problems down the road, if not corrected. Here are some small changes you can make to improve your posture.

Layton Utah Lower Back Pain Treatment, Posture

1- Keep Your Head Level

Keeping your head level with the rest of your body can help keep the spine straight and tall. Thinking about keeping your head level with the rest of your body can also help you think more consciously about your posture during daily activities such as watching TV, washing dishes, reading, or cleaning.

Thinking about posture brings a big improvement since posture is often neglected. If you put more attention to your posture, you can start to notice what might be putting stress on your body, especially the back.

2- Wear Low Heeled And Comfortable Shoes

While heels can look great for special occasions, they are not great for your posture. The height of heels can throw off your balance and cause you to walk differently than you normally would. This can cause more stress on muscles and joints, thus harming your posture.

Higher heels also increase the weight and pressure on the forefoot. Extra high stilettos will force your center of gravity to the hips and cause unnatural curves in the lower back. If you are looking to improve your posture, ditch the high heels for the majority of your week.

3- Don’t Slump At Your Desk

If your job has you sitting at a desk, you can and should notice how you are sitting. The easiest thing to do is not to slump while working at the computer and typing. Some things that can help are to place your feet flat on the floor, relax your shoulders, and get up and take a walk every so often.

Slumping makes your spine curve in a bad way that can make your neck, back, and shoulders feel tense. Letting yourself relax while at work is important, but you can still improve your posture while feeling relaxed.

4- Beware Of Text Neck

In the age of cell phones and the constant need for connection, a common problem can arise from looking down at your phone, resulting in what is called a “text neck.” If you spend a lot of time on your phone, looking down can add lots of strain to your spine. You can lift your phone up higher and move your eyes to look and scroll, rather than your head.

5- Firm Mattress

A firm mattress helps to hold the shape of your spine which helps it to hold its natural shape throughout the day. If you typically sleep on your side, you can bend your knees slightly and keep a pillow under your head to keep it level with your spine. Back sleepers should lay flat on a firm mattress and opt for a small pillow placed under the neck.

6- Exercise And Tone

If you have a lot of extra weight on your belly, this can affect your back. Putting extra pressure on the back can make it hard for your muscles to support the spine. Proper exercise and toning of your abdominal muscles can help improve your posture. Keeping your spine straight and removing some pressure can keep your spine healthy.
